Pakistan batsman Younis Khan has become the first cricketer in history to score a century in eleven different countries around the world after bringing up his hundred at the SCG in the Third Test.

Younis reached triple figures off 208 balls for his 34th test century, as Pakistan reached 5/201 in response to Australia’s 8/538 dec after rain wiped out the first half of the day’s play in Sydney.

In doing so the 39-year-old became the first test cricketer to bring up a century in all eleven countries that have hosted test cricket.

His first was made on debut at home in Rawalpindi against Sri Lanka in February 2000. In the 17 years since he has tonned up in Sri Lanka, New Zealand, The UAE (where Pakistan have played most of their test matches since 2002), Bangladesh, West Indies, India, England, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and now Australia.

Younis Khan has reached three figures three times against Australia in the past, all scored in the UAE on Australia’s last tour in 2014. His previous best in this country came on Boxing Day 2004 at the MCG when he clocked up 87.

The current series, which Australia have already wrapped up 2-0 and look well poised to make 3-0 in Sydney, is touted to be Younis’ last after a decorated career during which he led Pakistan to the 2009 T20 World Cup and has scored five test double-hundreds in addition to his highest score of 313.

He has scored a shade under 9,900 runs at an average of 52.76.

And, unless cricket moves back to Pakistan soon, or Zimbabwe and Bangladesh start hosting more test matches, Younis’ new record may be one he keeps for many years.
