Jockey Dwayne Dunn is one of the very few athletes worldwide who has actually competed against his son at a professional level.

Dwayne went head to head with son Dylan at Sandown in May last year, with Dylan on Lahqa and Dwayne on Weather The Storm.

Dylan knocked the old man off in a photo finish — a picture that now adorns the Dunn mantlepiece.

“I tell you what, it makes you try a lot harder when he (your son) lines up alongside you,” Dwayne Dunn said on Triple M’s new racing show Rocking Horses.

“He put it by the front door, this photo, and I just gotta walk past it every day.

“He’s not letting me forget it in a hurry!”

Dylan has since gone on to retire from racing at the age of 22.

“He had a fantastic career, Dylan,” Dwayne said.

“He struggled with his weight… unfortunately it was hard for him to walk away from something that he loved and was so good at.”

Dylan retired in May this year due to issues with his health.
