Richmond star Josh Caddy has explained how he came to own the horse Main Stage with Dustin Martin and a few other people at Richmond.

Main Stage is one of the 16 horses racing in the Victoria Derby today.

Caddy was a part of the Tigers’ drought-breaking flag after moving there from Geelong in the 2016 off-season, and ended up in part ownership of Main Stage with a few of his new teammates.

Caddy was on Triple M’s Rocking Horses this morning and explained that he owns the horse along with some members of a support group at the club.

“At the footy club we’ve got duty of care groups, so we just sort of catch up every now and then and make sure everyone’s travelling alright and that sort of stuff,” Caddy said.

“We thought we’d buy into a horse, it’s a bit of a common interest and something to do, and maybe go up to the country one day and watch it have a run and yeah, it turned out to be gun.”

Caddy explain seven people own the horse, six of them players.

“It’s myself, Dion Prestia, Dusty, Reece Conca, Anthony Miles, Toby Nankervis and Andrew McQualter, one of the assistant coaches,” he said.

“Dion, Dusty and myself will go and watch it today at Flemington… the other boys are still out and about, still travelling or whatever else.

“So yeah, it’s pretty amazing and we’ve had a pretty good year so far, so hopefully we can get another trophy!”

Main Stage is one of the favourites to win the Derby today.
