Horse owner Nick Williams has talked up both his horses, favourite Johannes Vermeer and outsider Sir Isaac Newton, ahead of the Caulfield Cup.

Johannes Vermeer is the current favourite ahead of Saturday’s Caulfield Cup, and Williams reckons he’ll be tough to beat.

“Aidan (O’Brien) said ‘well I better bring it down here and win the Caulfield Cup with it’, so I hope he’s right,” he told Triple M’s Rocking Horses on Saturday morning.

“It was a cracker (last week), wasn’t it? He ran a real blinder. He’s got a very good chance in the race, he certainly came through last week - well, better than me. He was jumping up and down on Sunday, he’s flying.

“I value Benny Melham’s riding as well as anyone in the country, in my view. From the gate he’ll get a great run. I reckon he’d be hard to beat.”

He also talked up Sir Isaac Newton, saying jockey Katelyn Mallyon can get the best out of him.

“She’s a beauty, she’s got the best hands in the business,” he said.

“We had a horse called Nevis…we used to call it Billy up in the stable, because it was absolutely crackers! She just rode it in the race and it settled, she clicks with these horses.

“She’s got a great sense of timing, she gets them into a rhythm, she knows the speeds to go. Isaac ran seventh last year and pulled his way around the course in extraordinary fashion.

“She might be leading at some point by six or seven lengths, because he does race very keenly…if he can conserve his energy, he’ll be right up there, that horse."

Tune in to Triple M from 8am to 10am on Saturday mornings as Triple M's Rocking Horses.
