7 Things You Missed (Or Didn't) At The Russian Grand Prix

1. WHAT DID HE JUST SAY?

Formula 1 has a new Flying Finn (sorry Kimi).

Valtteri Bottas took his maiden win, holding off a late charge from Sebastian Vettel to stand on the top step of the podium for the first time.

But you might've missed his reaction on the radio after taking the chequered flag.

"F**k me! Took quite a while, huh? More than 80 races. But worth the wait."

2. OVERTAKING? WAIT, WHAT?

Yep, there was none of that here.

The worst fears of the new aero rules were realised - there was literally no overtaking for the entire Grand Prix.

3. RICCIARDO BRAKES IT

The boy from Perth was on fire - just not how you'd expect as his nightmare season continued.

Daniel was forced to retire from the race in the early laps when his brakes caught fire.

So Ricciardo's race stopped because he couldn't stop. 

Go figure.

4. FERNANDO PARKS IT

Fernando didn't even have to worry about not finishing the race in the struggling McLaren because he didn't even start.

The car stopped on the formation lap, forcing him to endure the walk (of shame?) back to the pits.

What did he think of that?

"It's sad," he said.

Ditto.

5. PUTIN PUTS IN.

Lap 36 saw the cameras switch away from the (largely uneventful) Grand Prix to show Russian President Vladimir Putin arriving at the track.

Post-race saw the drivers share awkward small talk with Putin's translator.

Painful much?

6. NOT SO JOLLY JOLYON

Renault number two Jolyon Palmer crashed out of qualifying and Sunday didn't get much better.

The Brit needs to string together some results - fast - or he might find himself driving taxis between Heathrow and Westminster next year.

7. OVER AND OUT

With little happening on the track, we kept our ears on the team radios where there's seemed to be more excitement, even if it was fleeting.

Kimi Raikkonen's confusion after rejoining the race was telling.

"How did we get behind [Bottas]? How did that happen? Why didn't we box earlier?" h

"He's leading the race Kimi," was the reply from his engineer.

"Ahhh OK. I thought they were the other way round."
