Unless you've been hiding under a rock these past few months, then you'll know this year's Formula 1 cars will be much faster.

How fast?

Well in Melbourne they'll lap Albert Park around 4 to 5 seconds quicker than last year thanks to the new aerodynamic rules and fatter tyres.

And with speeds up on last year, each track on the 2017 calendar is carrying out safety upgrades to allow for cars some are calling the fastest in F1 history.

The Australian Grand Prix venue has beefed up the tyre walls at Turns 1, 6 and 14 with extra barrier layers installed.

While $100k was spent on 80 metres of Tecpro barriers just at Turn 12!

Officials are confident the build meets the requirements of the world motorsport governing body the FIA.

A full track inspection is being carried out today ahead of the first support categories hitting the track tomorrow.

The Formula 1 cars roll out of the pit garages for practice on Friday.
