Aussie Formula 1 Fans Snubbed As Races Start Later

Get Ready To Burn The Midnight Oil...

Aussie Formula 1 fans are about to have their loyalties tested.

Race times for all of the European races have been pushed back by 70 minutes.

What that means is fans down under will have to stay up later if they want to watch Daniel Ricciardo around iconic tracks like Monaco, Monza, Spa and Silverstone.

That's not all.

All of this season's races will start at 10 minutes past the hour to give broadcasters enough time to cross to the race assuming they're on air precisely on the hour.

While it's bad news for hardcore Aussie fans who'll have to burn the midnight oil to catch some F1, the bottom line is it's all about money.

'Research has indicated that a wider TV audience is reachable later in the afternoons, especially in the summer months,' said F1's owners Liberty Media.

'Consequently, it has been decided to move the schedule of every session back by one hour across the whole weekend.'

Whether or not Aussies will stay up until 11:10 PM on a Sunday night to catch a European race remains to be seen.

It follows a decision to axe "grid girls" at all future Formula 1 events.
