Formula 1 takes a break from Europe this weekend to race the Canadian Grand Prix.

Daniel Ricciardo returns to the scene of his maiden win and the Honey Badger is sniffing for an upset in Groundhog territory.

Without further ado, let's run you through some little known facts.


1) The Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve is situated on the man-made Ile Notre Dame.

2) It was built using rock excavated for the Montreal subway system.

3) Groundhogs are a common sight on the island, and it's not unusual to see them venture onto the track.

4) Daniel Ricciardo and Lewis Hamilton are among 6 drivers who won their very first race in Montreal.

5) Gilles Villeneuve won the first race here in 1978, which is partly why the place is named after him.

6) Formula 1's longest ever race played out here in 2011.

7) Jenson Button won after 4 hours, 4 minutes and 39 seconds.

8) Lewis Hamilton likes Montreal - he's won 5 times in Canada, including the last two races.

9) Michael Schumacher's the most successful driver, winning the Canadian Grand Prix 7 times.
