A lucky fan captured worldwide attention at the Spanish Grand Prix.

When Kimi Raikkonen crashed out of the race on the first turn at the Circuit de Catalunya, the TV cameras cut to a young fan bawling his eyes out.

Thomas Danel was overwhelmed after seeing his hero's race end so early.

Ferrari saw him on TV too and managed to track him down and the tears soon turned to big smiles.

The Scuderia invited Thomas to join the team at its compound in pitlane where he met Kimi and was presented with a team cap by the driver dubbed the "Ice Man."

Thomas' dad was impressed.

“This has been the most fantastic day for us. We could not believe it when they came to get us and took us to Ferrari."

"This is great for fans like us, it really makes F1 and all of its people come alive. Brilliant!”

Formula 1 fans clearly agreed with the gesture going viral on social media.

Young Thomas will still on hand at the end of the race to congratulate Ferrari's other driver, Sebastian Vettel, who finished second behind Lewis Hamilton.
