Pencil it in right now.

Lewis Hamilton, 2017 Formula 1 World Champion.

As the season winds down, it's a case of not if, but when the Brit will be crowned Drivers Champion for the 4th time.

Victory in the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas, gave his Mercedes team their 4th straight Constructors title.

It's Hamilton's 9th win of the season to help extend his lead over Ferrari rival Sebastian Vettel to 66 points.

And there are only 75 points to play for over the last three rounds.

Vettel was home second after leading early with Red Bull's Max Verstappen charging past Kimi Raikkonen on the final lap to snatch the final spot on the podium.

Or so he thought.

The stewards decided to whack the Dutchman with a 5 second post-race penalty for an overtake they deemed broke the rules and put Raikkonen back into 3rd.

Max was understandably pissed.

"It's just one idiot steward up there who makes the decisions against me," Verstappen vented.

"They decide and you can't do anything against them which is of course really weird. But what can you do?"

"It's not good for the crowd. I really hope next year nobody is coming, because like this, the sport doesn't make sense."

At least he finished.

Team-mate Daniel Ricciardo might have been in the hunt for a podium had his race not been ended by engine troubles on Lap 16.

With his 5th US Grand Prix win in 6 years in the bag, Hamilton can wrap up the Championship next weekend in Mexico.
