Max Verstappen Says Sorry For Brazilian Joke

Not one to keep his mouth shut, Daniel Ricciardo's team mate has back-tracked on a joke he made about Brazilians during the weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix.

Max Verstappen was left fuming when Felipe Massa cut in front of him during qualifying and blamed the veteran for ruining his lap time.

Asked later about the incident, the teenager joked "well, he's a Brazilian - so there's not much to discuss."

Joke or not, the comment sparked anger in Brazil and a wave of criticism from fans and fellow drivers.

Massa also stepped in to warn Max to watch his words ahead of the race.

But it wasn't until after the Grand Prix that Verstappen posted an apology on Facebook.

“I feel like I need to clarify my remarks that were made after this weekends (sic) qualifying session,” he posted.

“By no means did I mean to insult the Brazilian people who I greatly respect and are always very nice to me when I visit the country."

“I would like to apologize to any Brazilians that feel offended and look forward to racing in your country again.”

Max will be hoping the bad blood has passed (and his passport will be stamped) when he races in the Brazilian Grand Prix in November.
