A third place at the Canadian Grand Prix put Daniel Ricciardo on the podium in Montreal - and we all know what happens when the Perth lad goes up to spray the champagne.

He does the 'shoey.'

This occasion was no different, except for the fact that Sir Patrick Stewart of Star Trek and X-Men fame joined him for the now trademark celebration.

The actor was on hosting duties when Ricciardo asked him if he'd like some too.

“I’d love some, yeah. Come on!” said Sir Patrick.

Ricciardo removed his other boot, filled it with champagne and passed it over to Stewart who promptly knocked one back as the crowd cheered in approval.

Race winner Lewis Hamilton admitted it wasn't something he was up for.

“I’m proud of you for doing that. That’s something I couldn’t do,” he quipped.

“You see how sweaty his feet are? There’s a lot of toe-jam in that shoe.”

Was Stewart bothered though?

“I don’t care, I don’t care!” yelled Sir Pat.

“I made the podium for the first time! I will drink out of anybody’s shoes!”

Ricciardo's third place came as Hamilton all but dominated the race to slice Sebastian Vettel's championship lead in half.

The Brit was a man on a mission, leading every lap from the green light and setting the fastest lap on his way to the chequered flag ahead of team-mate Valtteri Bottas.

Ricciardo made the most of team-mate Max Verstappen's misfortune when he suffered a battery failure and retired on lap 11.

Sebastian Vettel had to settle for 4th after battling with the Force Indias late in the race, while team-mate Kimi Raikkonen finished a distant 7th.
