What We Learned At The Canadian Grand Prix

Montreal Magic For Mercedes

1. LEWIS LIGHTS UP IN MONTREAL.

Sometimes you just can't be beaten.

And that was the case for Lewis Hamilton in Canada.

From the moment he equalled Ayrton Senna's record of 65 pole positions, Lewis looked untouchable.

The Brit was rewarded with a replica Senna helmet from the legend's family to mark the occasion.

It was the third straight time Lewis had won in Canada, and his seventh win there overall.

2. WHOEVER SAID VETTEL CAN'T PASS?

Sebastian Vettel's long put to bed all the talk about him not being able to overtake and he showed why in Montreal.

The four-time champion suffered some damage in the early laps and pulled out some impressive moves on the Force Indias in the closing laps to make a late run (albeit too late) run at the podium.

But heading home with a 4th place after falling as far back as 18th is a handy result for the German who still leads the championship.

3. FORCE INDIA FORCE THE ISSUE.

Do team orders exist at Force India? If they don't, should they?

Some hard questions loom for the mid-fielders after Sergio Perez failed to let team-mate Esteban Ocon pass on the fresher tyres to make a run at Daniel Ricciardo.

The Mexican told his team traffic issues prevented him from doing so, by which time Force India had the decision taken out of their hands when the Aussie got away.

Perez appeared keener to defend against his team-mate than Vettel, suggesting a feud is brewing in the Force...

4. McLAREN...

What else is there left to say about the increasingly fragile McLaren Honda relationship?

Fernando Alonso charged well into the points before yet another engine-related issue ended his race.

The Spaniard even suggested the straight line speed of the Honda was downright dangerous.

Management's line?

"It's simply, and absolutely, not good enough."

5. STROLL TO NINTH

It's been a long time coming, but the teenager in the other Williams finally came good at his home race in Canada.

Lance Stroll kept his car together bring it home with a couple of points in 9th place.

Not too bad either from a grid spot of 17th.

Proof this kid's got potential when he keeps his car on the track.

6. RICCIARDO BOOTS UP...

The final word goes to our own Daniel Ricciardo.

The Aussie made the most of his team-mate Max Verstappen's mechanical drama to take the final podium spot with 3rd.

He's now 5th in the standings and hopeful the Bulls have turned the corner after a sluggish start.

"I really have to thank my team for making this possible," he said.

"The guys back at the factory have worked so hard to really fix what we had in the last race, bring it here and really give it to the Ferraris. I'm over the moon."
