It's been a bloody rough trot for the Knights, and a bizarre final few minutes of the game has seen the chance of victory cruelly stolen from their clutches by the Bulldogs.

Moses Mbye pounced on a wayward ball and score a run-away try out of absolutely nothing in the dying moments of the game.

"The Newcastle Knights have found another way to lose a game," Triple M's Anthony Maroon said.

It all looked to be over, but Reynolds charged and took Pete Mata'utia off the ball, giving the Knights a penalty to level it up at 20-18 as the final siren sounded.

"An absolute brain explosion from Reynolds. The game was over, there was no need to do that at all," Triple M's Jamie Soward said.

However, it wasn't meant to be, with Brock Lamb sending it wide.

"They might as well have gotten a celebrity out of the crowd and kicked it - that is the biggest miss you'll ever see," Maroon said.

"Josh Reynolds will be breathing a sigh of relief."

For the Knights, this was just about the closest they've come to breaking a 685-day drought in terms of away wins.
