Billy Slater has called a press conference for later today, where he's expected to announce his retirement.

The Melbourne Storm fullback will play out the remainder of the season but has reportedly decided to make his decision public so as to end months of speculation.

The Herald Sun broke the news last night, although an official announcement wasn't expected until next week.

Slater will be joined by Storm CEO Dave Donaghy and Head Coach Craig Bellamy for the press conference at AAMI Park at 1pm today.

The 35-year-old, who has scored 187 tries over 313 games, made his NRL debut with the Storm 15 years ago.

Slater was also controversially named Man of the Series for State of Origin 2018, despite only playing two out of three games; take a trip down memory lane with the Triple M NRL call team's reaction to that very moment below.
