In the middle of his roasting from media today over Wayne Bennett's coaching future at the Broncos, CEO Paul White revealed what effect the saga has had on their 34-year friendship.

It was open and honest stuff from White, whose relationship with Bennett was again put under the spotlight after Bennett and captain Darius Boyd refused to attend the CEO's annual staff dinner at his home.

They instead held their own gathering that the playing group left White's house to attend in a show of support for Wayne.

The revelations came during an intense and sometimes fiery media session where he refused to be drawn into speculation on Wayne Bennett's coaching future beyond 2019, saying that the club won't be governed by the media's agenda in making such an important decision.

White re-iterated time and time again that Wayne would be the coach in 2019 and a decision on who would coach the side in 2020 would not be made until the season had finished .

"In a perfect world," he declared, "Wayne would like an answer sooner rather than later, but we don't work in a perfect world."

He also addressed the rumours surrounding "BBQ gate" and Anthony Seibold and Michael Maguire being linked to the club as future coaches.
