The night before the Rabbitohs' clash with the Knights in round three, Bryson Goodwin was rocked by news delivered by his brother Bronx.
Eldest brother, Leon, had taken his own life.
"He just said he had some bad news for me," Goodwin said, reports smh.com.au.
"It was pretty hard to take as you can imagine. He had a little bit of struggles, he had a few problems. But it came out of the blue. You never expect someone to go through with it.
"A lot of people do work to try rectify things. But it's hard to get a handle because they go off and do it. It is very sad."
Goodwin played in honour of his brother, and dedicated the game to him.
The Rabbitohs also wore black armbands in tribute.
Triple M offers our heartfelt condolences to the Goodwin family.
