Canterbury have supported players' moves to meet outside the NRL club after their recent on-field embarrassment against Penrith led to concerns of player dissatisfaction.

Bulldogs chairman Ray Dib has rejected the notion player discord prompted Monday's secret meeting, rather it was to discuss their poor performances.

Dib described the meeting as a show of initiative by senior players to address Sunday's 38-0 NRL loss to the Panthers.

"It's their day off and they decided they all want to get together and have lunch somewhere today," he told Fairfax Media.

"That's a good sign of a team that cares. It had nothing to do with the club. I knew nothing about it. They are taking it upon themselves to fix things.

"There are no issues there. I've spoken to all the players and they are happy."

The Bulldogs sit third-last on the NRL ladder as their most recent defeat left Des Hasler with his worst first-half of a season since he began his coaching career in 2004.

The club's difficult 2017 has been punctuated by star five-eighth Josh Reynolds' end-of-season departure to Wests Tigers, while representative forward David Klemmer is also reported to be considering an exit.

Chief executive Raelene Castle will also leave the NRL club at the end of the season despite having one year to go on her contract.

Dib said fans had every right to call for his and Hasler's sacking but was confident the club would salvage its disappointing season.
