Kangaroos skipper Cameron Smith will surpass the immortal Clive Churchill, when Smith kits up for his 36th consecutive game for the Kangaroos against France on Friday night.

Smith, who not missed an Australian Test match since 2009 ironically against France, has never considered being rested or missing a game in the green and gold.

“In this format, where it’s a tournament, there are times when you are a little bit busted," Smith said ahead of Friday's World Cup encounter.

“But I’ve got great pride in the green and gold jersey and the opportunity I have to wear it.

“I’ve never really entertained the idea of giving it up to someone else or sitting out a week and watching the rest of my teammates play.

“I think that’s the key to it — I’ve always wanted to be part of every game the Kangaroos have played while I’ve been a part of the side.”

This adds to the plethora of accolades Smith has already accomplished in rugby league this season, which could also include another World Cup winners medal and the Golden Boot award for Best Player of 2017.

Cameron Smith's incredible 2017 season:

  • NRL Premiership Ring
  • State of Origin Series win, making it 11 in 12 years
  • First man to play 40 Origin games
  • Dally M Player of the Year
  • Dally M Hooker of the Year
  • Dally M Captain of the Year
  • Record-breaking 358 NRL games, the most of anyone in the history of the NRL.
  • First player in the history of the game to kick 1,000 premiership goals (Second behind Hazem El Masri on all-time points scoring list).
  • 254 NRL wins, giving him the most first grade wins in history.
  • Record-breaking 36 consecutive games for the Kangaroos
