Chad Townsend wasn't worried about Mitchell Pearce potentially joining the Sharks, which may have forced the 2016 Premiership winner out of the club.

"To be honest, I wasn't worried at all, I can't control any of that," Townsend told NRL.com.

"With the NRL these days anything goes, as a player you can only really worry about what you can control.

"Whether Pearcey was coming or not it was out of my scope."

The Sharks threw everything they could at Pearce, attempting to lure him to the Shire, with captain Paul Gallen and coach Shane Flanagan meeting with Pearce several times.

During this period, Townsend was kept in the loop by Flanagan about all the possibilities for 2018.

"We spoke briefly and had a little chat about what possibly could happen," he added.

"Again, it was a possibility and I'm not going to dwell to much on that ... will move forward."
