Channel 9 have axed the 24-year long run of The NRL Footy Show ahead of 2018.

Fairfax Media revealed that the show will make way for a 'revamped' one-hour program hosted by Erin Molan.

It is unknown at this stage if founding host Paul Vautin will have a role on the new show.

Last week, a press release from Channel 9 confirmed that The Footy Show would be continuing as normal.

"The NRL Footy Show also returns for its 25th season in 2018 with all the latest breaking stories and loads of fun from the world of rugby league," the media release said.

"Each week, Paul 'Fatty' Vautin, Erin Molan, Beau Ryan and Darryl "Big Marn" Brohman will be joined by some of the biggest names in the game."

Channel 9 released a statement regarding the show:

“Nine will be broadcasting 23 Thursday night NRL games in 2018 and so the NRL Footy Show will have a new look and feel to reflect the games the audience have just enjoyed watching,” the statement reads.

Nine said the exact format of the Footy Show and appearing talent is still to be determined.
