He’s not a part of the NRL, but Chris Sandow has returned to rugby league.

The former Parramatta and Souths halfback will make a return to the footy field in 2017 for the Norths Devils in the Queensland Cup, reports The Courier Mail.

“It’s great for our club and playing group. At the moment he’s not looking at playing NRL or anything,” said North Devils chief Jamie Dowse said.

“We’ve done that (deal) on our own, we haven’t had any conversations with the Broncos (Norths’ NRL affiliate)."

Norths Devils first game is against Tweed Heads Seagulls on March 5.

The 28-year-old's career was at a crossroads after he walked out on Super League club Warrington and was fined $300 after being filmed brawling in Cherbourg last month.

That put a large dent in his chances of an NRL club reviving his career but Sandow remained adamant he wanted get back to the top flight and began training with the Hornets, his hometown club.

Earlier, Sandow had an unhappy return to rugby league in an exhibition game when his Cherbourg side went down 32-16 against Redfern at the NRL All Stars carnival in Newcastle.

Sandow was largely a passenger and looked overweight, but he had a few bright spots - chipping and chasing to pin Redfern in-goal as well as making a break from inside his own half.
