Quade Cooper's time at the Queensland Reds appears to be over after new coach brad Thorn telling the former Wallabies flyhallf he isn't in his plans for the 2018 season.

Despite having two-years remaining on his contract, Cooper has reportedly had 'honest' conversations with Thorn, regarding his future.

"I've had honest conversations with Quade Cooper and Nick Frisby about where they currently sit in our plans for 2018," Thorn said.

"They're not training with the Reds at the moment and will be training wiht their club instead."

While Cooper will certainly attract interest from overseas Union suitors in Japan and France, could a code switch to Rugby League still be on the cards?

Cooper was extremely close to signing with the Parramatta Eels ahead of the 2011 NRL season but opted to remain in Union.

Then in 2014, Cooper admitted he was still interested in making the switch to to League, telling News Corp it's "something that I’d love to do."

"I played league when I was a kid, so I’ll always have that desire to one day play it," Cooper said.

"I looked at league before re-signing with rugby recently (in 2011), but in the end I wanted to try and play in the World Cup.

"But I’ve thought about league a few times throughout my career.

"I remember the Parramatta deal was very close.

"I was literally going over to sign a contract the next morning, but then the ARU came in and sold me a better deal in terms of all the whole approach and I decided to stay.

"But playing league is something that I’d love to do.

"Even last year (2013) I considered playing league with Sonny (Bill Williams) at the Roosters, so the option has always been there and I’m not ruling anything out in the future."

To add to the speculation, the one-time Barbarian, was linked with a lucrative move to the English Super League just earlier this year.
