Details of the bets former Wests Tigers centre Tim Simona placed on NRL games that saw him deregistered by the league indefinitely have emerged.

Fairfax Media has reported that Simona placed $600 worth of bets on league matches and won just $200 back — a loss of $400.

Simona gambled on opposition players he was responsible for to score against his club and and was found betting against his own side.

He bet on on both former teammate Benji Marshall and Adam Quinlan to score the first try when the Tigers played the Dragons in round 20 last year.

Neither bet came through, with Kurt Mann getting across for the first try.

While Simona bet on opposition teams and players several times, the NRL found no evidence he’d been involved in match-fixing.

“We don't have evidence that he changed his performance to try to win those bets and that's something the player denies,” NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg told Fairfax.

It seems unlikely the NRL will ever allow Simona back in the competition again.

“Based on the evidence we have identified, it is very hard to imagine that Tim Simona will be registered with the NRL any time in the future,” Greenberg said.

“Our fans must have trust in the game and our fans must have trust in the players.

“Our assessment is this is an isolated incident and Tim Simona acted alone.

“But when someone considered breaching that trust, we will ensure they are removed form the game.”
