It's not who you think

With some room to move in the salary cap due to the loss of Kieran Foran, the Parramatta Eels are apparently chasing a marquee signing - and they've got their eye on one of the best blokes running around.

According to @7NewsSydney, the club is after Jason Taumalolo, who is apparently in a position to command $1.2 million a season.

The addition of Taumalolo would do wonders for the Eels as they attempt to turn it around after a nightmare 2016 season.

The hulking forward is a solid carrier of the ball, and at just 23 years old, he'd be a great investment for Parramatta if they can land him for several years.

One similarity Taumalolo has with former Eel Jarryd Hayne is an interest in the NFL, with the forward joining Valentine Holmes over the off season for a trial in front of some talent scouts.

Eels CEO Burnie Gurr has hosed down any thought of using the salary cap space to try to bring Hayne back to the club, saying that there haven't been any discussions.

"We haven't even thought about it, to be honest with you," Gurr said.
