With Hull FC and Wigan Warriors creating history in Wollongong last night, playing for Premiership points for the first time in Australia, it seems as though the league may move another regular season game, this time to New York.

A French publication, Lindependant, is reporting the Catalan Dragons have been approached by the backers of the touted New York Rugby League franchise (who are hoping to enter the English rugby league system in 2019), to play their Round 8 fixture against the Salford Red Devils in New York at the Red Bull Arena.

A two-hour meeting between, Ricky Wilby, co-founder of the New York club, Salford director Ian Blease and Catalans bosses Bernard Guasch & Christophe Jouffret took place to test the waters.

"We are not the applicants, but the guests. It would be extraordinary for the club, city, department and region to play an official match in New York. We are now waiting to have all the authorizations to initiate this trip officially," Catalans President Bernard Guasch told Lindependant.

While the game is originally schedule to be played on March 30, organisers are hoping it would be pushed back to June 24.

This begs the question, how long before the NRL starts taking regular season games 'global'?

Will we soon see a NRL regular season game taken to PNG, Fiji or even England?
