English Super League player Jamie Acton faces a ban of at least eight matches after lifting former NRL star Greg Bird as he lay hurt following an on-field collision.

Leigh forward Acton has been charged with 'other contrary behaviour' by the Rugby Football League in an incident rated grade F - the highest of severity. Watch the video below.

Englishman Acton appeared to lift Catalans' Bird by the shirt and push him back to the ground in an apparent remonstration during the Centurions' Super League loss to the Dragons in Perpignan on Saturday.

Bird, a former NSW and Australia representative, was laid out after a heavy collision with Leigh halfback Ben Reynolds.

It is the fourth time Acton, who will now face a hearing, has been charged with a disciplinary offence this season.

In an ill-tempered game, Bird himself was charged with punching, while three teammates and another Leigh player will face hearings.
