Greg Inglis Apologises For Alleged Drink Driving But Will NOT Stand Down As Kangaroos Captain

Greg Inglis has "sincerely" apologised for allegedly drink driving on Monday afternoon but has denied that he'll be stepping down as Kangaroos captain.

The South star, who was appointed skipper just hours before news of his arrest broke, spoke to media at Redfern Oval about his "one silly mistake" at lunchtime today.

"I'm sincerely apologetic and hopefully this can get sorted and we can move on from this," Inglis said. "As a player, as a person in this community, it's not good enough.

"I've let a lot of people down as a proud Indigenous role model."

The 31-year-old was travelling back to Sydney from Dubbo on Monday - where he had played in the Koori Knockout round - when NSW Police say they stopped him at about 2.15pm after detecting that his car was travelling above the speed limit.

He was issued a roadside breath test, which allegedly returned a positive reading, at which point he was arrested and taken to Lithgow Police Station.

It's alleged that he then returned a reading of 0.085 on a second breath analysis.

While there have been calls for Inglis to step down as captain - including from national selector Laurie Daly - Triple M's Gordie Tallis has said that it would be a "knee-jerk reaction."
