Construction on the new Parramatta Stadium has come to a grinding halt.

Heavy rainfall in Sydney's west over the past two days has caused up to a metre of flooding on the "surface area."

The stadium is set to open in April 2019, with reports suggesting tenants the Parramatta Eels and Wests Tigers will play the first game at the new stadium.

An ANZAC Day blockbuster or their annual Easter Monday clash are the reported targeted dates for the opening.
