James Graham may be the Bulldogs captain on the field, but it appears that his leadership skills extend off it as well.

According to Triple M and the Australian's Brent Read, Chairman Ray Dib played a special tribute to outgoing Bulldogs captain James Graham at the Bulldogs awards night.

"They told a story about James Graham that sort of exemplifies what they're losing," Ready said.

"This year when Josh Reynolds was going through his contract negotiations, James Graham rang Ray Dib.

"James Graham had a ratchet clause in his contract for next year which means that if the cap goes up, he got a pay increase.

"As I understand it, that ratchet clause was worth around $200,000.

"James Graham said to Ray Dib 'I don't want that money - give it to Josh Reynolds, I want to keep him at the club'.

"So he was willing to sacrifice a couple of hundred thousand dollars to try to keep Josh Reynolds at Canterbury."

James Graham will head to the Dragons next year, while Reynolds has signed with the Tigers.
