Triple M's James Hooper has said he believes Cameron Smith should be inducted as the NRL's next Immortal.

"In my view he'll be the next Immortal," he said.

The boys were surprised he had Smith in ahead of Darren Lockyer.

"Yeah, I think so," he said.

"I think he's the best player of this generation. He's done so much...I would have Cameron Smith."

The current Immortals are Clive Churchill, Bob Fulton, Reg Gasnier, Johnny Raper, Graeme Langlands, Wally Lewis, Arthur Beetson and Andrew Johns.

The NRL recently acquired the rights to the Immortals.

Johnathan Thurston backed the call for Smith to be the next Immortal last year.

“Smithy has to be. His record speaks for itself. He has changed how dummy-halves play the game,” he told The Courier Mail.

“He has always had time with the football. He has always outsmarted people and teams. He would be my next pick.”
