New Zealand's Rugby League World Cup campaign has been sent into disarray after wrecking ball Jason Taumalolo rejected the Kiwis in favour of Tonga.

Taumalolo was expected to play key part of the Kiwis attempt to re-claim the World Cup trophy, but instead the NRL's biggest metre eater favoured a place in the Tongan World Cup squad.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Taumalolo was unhappy that Kiwis coach David Kidwell had a firm stance to not pick Jesse Bromwich and Kevin Proctor after disciplinary issues stemming from the ANZAC Test earlier in the year.
