Johnathan Thurston has praised Andrew Fifita and Jason Taumalolo for choosing to play for Tonga at the upcoming Rugby League World Cup.

Speaking to Marto, Ed & Robin, Thurston said the international game can only get better as big-name players choose to play for the smaller nations.

"I think it's great for the World Cup," JT told Marto, Ed & Robin. Listen to the audio.

"Obviously the stronger the international game is the better rugby league is going to be.

"Those two boys (Andrew Fifita and Jason Taumalolo) are probably the most damaging forwards in the game.

"Choosing to play for Tonga is only going to make the international game stronger."

Thurston comments are a stark contrast to Origin teammate Cooper Cronk, who called Fifita's defection 'disappointing' and 'poor'.
