He's arguably the most beloved NRL player in the country and it seems that we still can't get enough of Johnathan Thurston.

The Cowboys playmaker joined the Dead Set Legends over the weekend when he was asked about story in the Courier Mail claiming that he was headed back to Origin.

Headlined "Maroons Keen To Tap Into Thurston's Brilliant Brain", the report said that Thurston would be joining Kevin Walters' coaching staff for the 2018 series.

"A journo asked me that a couple of weeks ago," Thurston laughed on Triple M on Saturday. "I haven't spoken to Kevy officially about anything and obviously I'd have to check with the Cowboys.

"I'm retired from representative footy playing but if Kevy gave me a call I'd think about it.

"Why wouldn't you, it's the best team in the world?"

JT continued: "[I'd] get his thoughts and what he's thinking and go from there. But at this stage there hasn't been any formal offer about it or any offer about it.

"But if Kevy rings me throughout the year anyway to get my opinions and to get my views on the team... I'm sure he'll still do that."
