After news broke yesterday of Josh Papalii's drink driving conviction, there were questions of whether Mal Meninga would again take a hard-line stance on his squad's discipline for the upcoming ANZAC test.

It has just been revealed that Meninga has taken action, with Papalii axed from the team.

He will be replaced by Shannon Boyd.

Josh Papalii's chances of playing in the ANZAC test are looking slim, after being convicted of a drink driving offence the day after being named by coach Mal Meninga in the side.

A curveball in the story is that Papalii reportedly phoned the police twice to dob himself in and notify them he was drink driving when the incident happened in January.

He told the court that he called the police "in order to prove a point", but it is unclear exactly what point that was.

Papalii blew 0.123 on a breathalyser when the police approached his stationary car.

He pleaded guilty to a level three drink driving offence and was issued an eighth month driving ban and a $1000 fine.

According to news.com.au, the NRL is in discussions with the Raiders over the possibility of action being taken.

Papalii has a bit of a record when it comes to driving offences, getting in trouble in 2014 for driving on a suspended licence and throwing a one-litre bottle of moisturising cream at another motorist.
