There's been a bit of controversy in this afternoon's first game, with tempers flaring as the Bulldogs slump to another disappointing loss.

With only a little bit of time left on the clock, David Klemmer outright slapped Daly Cherry-Evans in the face, which was accompanied by widespread calls for a sin-binning. Check out the incident below.

However, the on-field ref only blew a penalty, which captain James Graham contested.

"It's not just worrying about today's game, he's got to think about the rest of the games this weekend, next weekend and all the games every week after that," Triple M's Bill Harrigan said.

"You can't do that - that should be a sin binning," Triple M's Peter Sterling said.

"DCE was giving him a bit of lip and not giving him the football, and Klemmer has given him a slap with an open hand. He's a bit out of his weight division," Triple M's sideline commentator James Hooper said.

While there was a resounding outcry on social media, the tweet below summed up events very succinctly.

"Klemmer looking angrier than a man with a fork in a world full of soup."
