In breaking news, Broncos player Matt Lodge has reached a settlement over the incident in New York in 2015.

According to Lodge, he has taken out a loan to pay compensation to the family at the centre of the New York rampage.

Broncos CEO Paul White has said that due to salary cap constraints, the club will not assist in the compensation payment.

White and Lodge's father flew to New York for a mediation session with the family.

"I've organised a loan and I will pay the full amount straight away and work to repay that loan. Broncos are not paying loan," Lodge said.

"I can confirm that a mediation took place in New York on June 11, and an agreement was reached on the matter.

"I wanted to reach a resolution that satisfied those affected by my actions.

"I think about what happened in New York every day and it drives me to be a better person."

According to White, Lodge has been "alcohol free for that entire period of time" and is undergoing rehabilitation programs.
