It's only one sleep until the NRL kicks off with the Sharks vs Broncos on Thursday night… and it's no doubt one of the most open competitions that we can remember.

Triple M Grill Team’s MG believes a number of clubs having recruited particularly well, especially the Warriors - and a number of others on the improve (Raiders, Panthers, Roosters and Titans), so NRL superclubs like Broncos, Bulldogs and Parramatta will miss out.

"I'm thinking Parramatta, bottom four. I'm not that optimistic," said MG.

"I'm not sure they have the arsenal to [recover from 2016]."

He also reckons the Roosters, after a disappointing 2016, will return in a big way.

“I love the fact that Luke Keary’s [there], taking a bit of pressure off [Mitchell] Pearce,” said MG.

“And Latrell Mitchell, with a year under his belt is going to have a belter of a year.”
