Former Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire has confirmed he will throw his name in the hat for the vacant NSW Origin coaching job.

Despite his sacking from the Rabbitohs and subsequently missing out on the Gold Coast Titans job, 'Madge' finds the Blues gig very appealing.

“It is something that I think for any coach, that would be a very appealing job,” Maguire told The Australian.

“It’s about building an environment that best brings out performance. Whether it’s at club level, representative level, it’s about creating an environment where people can play at their best.

“That’s what you set out to do. When I was at Souths in ’14 and when I was at Wigan, the players created a strong environment that was set by the people around them.

“Having a great group around them to give them the best opportunity to perform, that’s what you want. I really feel NSW is going into a strong period.

“People talk about what Queensland have created for a long period of time — it’s the environment. There is no reason why a young bunch of men coming through can’t do the same. That’s what brings success to any organisation.”

The NSWRL will announce the new Blues head coach on November 24.
