Halfback Mitchell Pearce has officially asked the Roosters for a release from his contract, according to News Corp.

Pearce, who had been holidaying in the US, informed coach Trent Robinson of his decision over lunch.

He is said to have made the decision after Cooper Cronk made the move to the Roosters from the Melbourne Storm.

The Roosters are set to grant Pearce the release, with Cronulla Sharks, Manly Sea Eagles, Newcastle Knights, Melbourne Storm and Brisbane Broncos all in the conversation for his services.

Manly appear to be front-runners after releasing five-eighth Blake Green from his contract at the same time as Pearce’s decision was made.

Pearce has played 238 games in his 11 seasons with the Roosters, and was co-captain in 2015.
