Mitchell Moses' signing has put Parramatta's entire playing squad on notice, according to star centre Michael Jennings.

Moses' expected switch to the Eels this week was scuppered after the five-eighth was named in Wests Tigers coach Ivan Cleary's line-up to play Canterbury on Sunday.

The joint venture's board and Cleary met on Tuesday night to discuss the situation and are believed to be holding out on Moses' release until they can negotiate a player swap with Parramatta.

However whether Moses moves this year or next, Jennings believes his signing has deepened their talent pool for next season and placed pressure on his teammates to perform.

"There's a lot of players that, when Moses comes over, it's going to be a lot of reshuffling and some tough calls for (coach Brad Arthur)," Jennings said on Wednesday.

"But that's just the great depth that we have here at Parra, which is good.

"I guess that's just putting everyone on notice to play their best footy.

"That's the challenge for each player in the team. That's part of footy. You want to keep motivated each week. That's just the motivation for some players to keep their spots."

Jennings said such speculation over players' futures was now part of the game.

The NSW State of Origin centre is no stranger to mid-contract upheaval, having been released from the Sydney Roosters.

"It doesn't really affect myself. I don't look too much into it. I've been shifted in pre-season, and that was fine with me," he said.

"For us it's simple, worrying about footy. All that other stuff, that's out of our control."

Makeshift five-eighth Brad Takairangi was on Tuesday named in the No.6 jumper to take on Penrith in the western Sydney derby, with experimental pivot Clint Gutherson at fullback.

Gutherson is likely to revert to the halves after the return of Bevan French from injury.

Jennings said he had every confidence in Gutherson to partner main playmaker Corey Norman and drive the Eels' push to break the current longest finals drought in the NRL of seven years.

"Clint's been there for a while and has done the job well," he said.
