Speaking on Triple M Saturday NRL, Nathan Brown has discussed the loss of Dane Gagai to the Rabbitohs next season, saying that it's inevitable that there is some fall-out from such a drastic rebuild.

"It's disappointing because we've had a plan in placed Gags was always a part of that plan," Brown said. Listen to the full report below.

"He's a great guy and he competes so well, as all the Origin players do.

"There's a lot of good signings coming in and we're a fair way down the track with a number more coming in.

"Gags was always a part of that plan, but when you do have a team rebuild, you do cop the odd setback on the way."

However, while Gagai is a big loss for the Knights - especially given his form in Origin, Brown couldn't blame him for wanting to link up with Souths.

"The opportunity for Gags to play with Greg Inglis - being a young Aboriginal boy and having the chance to play with one of the greatest players of the Indigenous community in Greg - and obviously Souths have got a fairly developed roster."

And interestingly, Brown reckons he hasn't seen the last of Gagai at Newcastle.

"Whilst we've lost him now, the game is funny now in the way these contracts work. He's there for four years and I'm sure he'll continue to play and you just never know what might happen down the track."
