The NRL will swoop into AFL heartland to stage an opening-round double header at the new state-of-the-art Perth Stadium next season.

South Sydney and the Bulldogs will host opponents at the 60,000-seat stadium on Saturday, March 10 in the first football games to be held there.

"This will be a spectacular way to help kick off the new NRL season - a Saturday double header at the brand new stadium in Perth," NRL CEO Todd Greenberg said.

The NRL has released tickets for the double header - even though the opposing teams won't be known until the draw is released later in the year - making it the first sporting contest to go on sale for the soon-to-be-completed stadium.

South Sydney CEO Blake Solly said the club had already built a strong following in the west after hosting games in Perth since 2009.

"We have over 1000 members based in WA which is absolutely fantastic," he said.

The stadium, set to open in early 2018, will also host game two of the 2019 State of Origin series.

The NRL will be hoping to capitalise on the vacuum left by the Perth-based Western Force being booted out of Super Rugby by the Australian Rugby Union.

Tickets On Sale

Tickets will be available from $20 for adults as well as $50 for families. Members can buy tickets from $15 (adults) and $45 (families). All tickets will also include public transport.

Tickets will go on sale to all NRL Club Ticketed Members today at 10am AEST and to the General Public at 10am AEST tomorrow (Wednesday).

Tickets will be available at nrl.com/tickets
