The NRL are attempting to hire former Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire to fix their refereeing problems.
According to The Daily Telegraph, Maguire would join the NRL on a full-time basis and become involved in the week-to-week coaching of the referees.
Maguire would also become part of a new three-man panel to determine the weekend game appointments.
This comes after Tony Archer was installed as the National Director of Referees, relinquishing his duties as referees boss.
Maguire has told the Daily Telegraph he is seriously considering the offer after missing out on the head coaching roles at the Titans, Bulldogs and the NSW Origin side.
