The Footy Show is copping some criticism after allegations have been made of a racist joke on Thursday night's show.

During the segment Pass of Pesos, an Indigenous man from the crowd had to throw a footy through a hoop to win over $6,500.

He made the shot, and was handed the oversized novelty cheque when host Paul Vautin made a comment.

"All of your relations in Cairns just went 'how good, I can't wait until he gets back, we're having a drink'," Vautin said.

This has drawn backlash from former player Joe Williams, who has called for Vautin to apologise and be stood down for "racial profiling" and "racism". See Williams' tweet below.
