The Eels have sacked Tony Williams and handed Nathan Davis a "substantial fine" after both tested positive for "illicit and hazardous drugs" for a second time.

Parramatta issued a statement just after lunchtime announcing the sanctions; Williams, who is off-contract this year, and Davis have also been suspended for 12 weeks by the NRL.

TONY WILLIAMS:
"Following a second contravention of the NRL Testing Policy for illicit & hazardous drugs, the Parramatta National Rugby League Club Pty Limited has terminated Tony Williams’ NRL Playing Contract, effective immediately.
 
"In addition, the NRL has suspended Tony Williams for 12 weeks in accordance with the Policy. 
 
"The Parramatta Eels Club will continue to offer welfare assistance and support to Tony."
 
 
NATHAN DAVIS:
"Following a second contravention of the NRL Testing Policy for illicit & hazardous drugs, the Parramatta National Rugby League Club Pty Limited has imposed a substantial fine on Nathan Davis.
 
"In addition, the NRL has suspended Nathan Davis for 12 weeks in accordance with the Policy. 
 
"The Parramatta Eels Club will continue to offer welfare assistance and support to Nathan."
