Former Dragon and Raider Josh McCrone says building something special with North American based Toronto Wolfpack, is much bigger than anything that could be achieved in the NRL.

"In the NRL you show up on November 1 and you’re flogged all year with the goal of winning a Grand Final. This is much bigger than that," McCrone told Total Rugby League.

"We’re trying to get to the top, we’re trying to promote Rugby League in North America. That is the exciting part for me."

McCrone signed a two-year deal with the Wolfpack midway through 2017, with the 30-year-old excited at the prospect of growing the game in North America.

"When I first spoke to Brian Noble (Director) and Paul Rowley (Head Coach) about the direction they were going in, it was something that really excited me," he added.

"Before that, I thought it was a bit far-fetched, it wasn’t something I thought I’d go for.

"They reassured me with the direction they want to go in and the confidence they have in the squad.

"To promote the game in North America and get to Super League is appealing to me and I want to be a part of that."

The Wolfpack will compete in the English Championship, after earning promotion from League One in 2017.

Their NRL-experienced roster also includes Fuifui Moimoi, Dave Taylor and Ashton Sims
