The Tongan King, Tupou VI, has declared Wednesday November 29 a public holiday in the pacific island nation after the national rugby league team's heroics in the World Cup.

The players will also be awarded Royal Orders from the King, to recognise their contribution to sports.

The award from the King, comes after the Tongan side fell agonisingly short of a World Cup final appearance, going down to England 20-18 in front of a record 30,003 fans at Mt Smart Stadium.

World Cup stars; Jason Taumalolo, William Hopoate and Konrad Hurrell have all made the trip to Tonga to receive the award in person.
