Kalyn Ponga, an absolute superstar of the NRL leading the Newcastle Knights to their best start to a season under Nathan Brown.

He debuted as an 18-year-old for the North Queensland Cowboys in a semi-final against the Broncos. 

Since, he has signed a massive deal with the Newcastle Knights and is already showing his worth. 

Now, attention has quickly turned to whether or not he is ready for the cauldron of State of Origin. 

Triple M's Mark Geyer was one of the first to place Ponga's name firmly in contention, while Queensland legend Johnathan Thurston believes he should be 18th man in 2018. 

Now, Queensland Maroons coach Kevin Walters has commented on Ponga's chances of getting selected for this year's Origin series.
