In late 2017, Jason Clark was told by Rabbitohs general manager of football Shane Richardson his services would no longer be required beyond the 2018 season.
It was a tough and bitter pill to swallow for the 28-year-old, who recently surpassed 150 games for the club, but he took it on the chin and wanted to give his all for the remaining part of his Rabbitohs career.
"It's hard but the club has been great with me dealing with that sort of stuff," Clark told NRL.com.
"Richo pulled me in last year and wanted to let me know early so I could get on the front foot and look after myself. I am very thankful to him for doing that.
"You never really think about it when you are starting out but as you get older you realise that players come and go, and that is part of the game. I've just got to try and play some good footy to get another contract."
However, it seems as though the fans and members of the clubs are not particularly happy with the club's decision to not renew Clark's contract.
So much so, some fans have started an online petition in the hope of keeping the 2014 Premiership winning player at the club.
And in just a few hours, the petition has already garnered over 1,000 signatures.
